Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines - to Vancouver / Victoria
|
Rachael
Ever thought about cruising? Think you may not like it? Don't want to
spend a whole lot of money because of that? Well now there is a way to
"test the waters" without spending one month's salary.
I had always wanted
to try a cruise vacation but my husband, Carl, was skeptical. He had the
age old objections about being bored and being around too many people. I
convinced Carl to take a 3 night cruise with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line to
Vancouver and Victoria for our anniversary. We found this to be the
perfect first cruise!
We were both pleasantly surprised as we boarded the
Viking of the Seas here in Seattle. There were definitely people, but we
never felt overcrowded. We were also very happy with our accommodations.
We ended up in a "mini-suite" on the eighth deck. There was plenty of
space for all our things along with a small seating area and a veranda. We
gathered ourselves and headed up to the Viking Crown Lounge to watch our
city disappear into the sunset.
When Seattle was out of our sights - we
decided to take a tour of the ship. We started at the top and worked our
way down to the main deck. Carl and I were surprised at the number of
public places aboard the ship. There were pools, an arcade, a library,
lounges, a spa, workout rooms, a piano bar, countless restaurants just to
name a few!
After getting back to our room and catching our breath, we
changed for dinner. Once at our table we met our dinner partners and
waiters. Great bunch of people all the way around. The other couple at
our table were experienced cruisers and were impressed with this ship.
They felt the crew was outstanding and the accommodations were more than
adequate. When the food arrived there was plenty of it! There were
plenty of choices in every category, everyone was able to find something
they liked and never had to repeat an entree (unless they wanted to!). It
wasn't the best food I've ever eaten but there were no complaints from our
table. We finally retired for the evening after a late night drink and a
few rounds of 21 in the casino, we had yet to experience the best part of
cruising.
All of our experiences thus far were not as cool as waking up in
the morning to a new city everyday. We didn't have to worry about our
luggage or catching a plane - we were just there!
We had a great day
shopping in Vancouver that day and seeing Victoria's sights the next. The
entertainment on the ship was first class. We only saw one show, a musical
review, but heard other passengers talking about them all. No one we met
was having a bad time. In fact, on night while we were in the Library, we
witnessed a couple getting engaged! Very romantic!
As we were
disembarking Carl and I discussed the idea of doing this again. We both
thought we would definitely like to do this again - only longer! So ... if
you are thinking you might like to cruise but not a hundred percent sure,
try this itinerary on Royal Caribbean - you can't go wrong.
